Lois Tilton over at the Internet Review of Science Fiction had some nice things to say about The Future Hunters and recommended it. She joins the growing band of people who feel it should be a novel. You’ll have to sign up if you want to read it but its a site well worth joining.

Jeff VanderMeer has already announced that The Seven Deadly Hotels by Bruce Holland Rogers is to be reprinted in his Best American Fantasy 2, so the anthology is off to an auspicious start. A long time between drinks again. So long in fact, I’ve finished my first semester at Uni and head into exams next week. On a brighter note, I sold my short story The Snow Queen to Wheatland Press for the Polyphony 7 anthology to be published in November.

Strange Horizons

It’s been a while between posts but I’ll start with some good news: Strange Horizons are buying my short story The Future Hunters. It should be available around September.

Almost as exciting but not quite, I started my BA (English) at the University of Western Australia yesterday with my first lecture in Creative Writing. I’m looking forward to learning in a faculty that supports speculative fiction.

Mundane SF

Geoff Ryman passed on my Mundane SF story for Interzone. The Future Hunters made the first cut and garnered some positive comments which I’m pleased about. I think I’ll put this one away until next year and ponder where to take the story.

Bizarrely, Charles Coleman Finlay has been introduced at a World Fantasy Convention gathering as me. Now if I could just be mistaken for the ever so humble Charlie, I could circumvent my whole writing comeback shenanigans and move straight to the three book deal.
